CATHEDRAL CEILINGS
CATHEDRAL CEILINGS
CATHEDRAL CEILING ABOVE MY HEAD
IS A CONCRETE SLAB ABOVE MY BED
AND MY CROSS BENEATH THE STARS
IS A WINDOW FULL OF BARS
I PRETEND THAT I CAN FLY
FROM MY CELL INTO THE SKY
I WILL SLIP BETWEEN THESE BARS
I WILL COME TO WHERE YOU ARE
I’LL BE THE LIGHT THAT FINDS YOUR EYES
I’LL BE THE DARKNESS AND THE LIES
I AM STRONGER THAN I KNEW
BUT I WAS WEAK FOR YOU
I TOLD ‘EM I WAS DRUNK AND STONED
I SAID I ACTED ON MY OWN
HE WAS COLD, HE WAS CRUEL
I CAUGHT HIM HURTING YOU
I TOOK THE KNIFE OUT OF YOUR HAND
I WIPED IT OFF, WE MADE A PLAN
AND LIKE A CHURCH BELL NEVER RUNG
WHAT I SAW STAYS ON MY TONGUE
CATHEDRAL CEILING ABOVE MY HEAD
IRON BARS AND METAL BED
WHEN I’M GONE COME GET MY THINGS
YOU’LL FIND A KEY UPON A RING
IN MY ATTIC THERE‘S A BOX
THAT KEY WILL FIT THE LOCK
THERE ARE DIAMONDS STASHED INSIDE
THE LIGHT WILL FIND YOUR EYES
I WILL SLIP BETWEEN THESE BARS
I WILL COME TO WHERE YOU ARE
THOSE DIAMONDS ARE FOR YOU
FOR THE LIES AND FOR THE TRUTH
AND FOR THE THINGS LOVE MAKES US DO
